republica

Formed in 1994 by Tim Dorney and Andy Todd, and joined by Saffron on lead vocals, Republica released their debut album in 1996 (reaching number 4), and followed it with a succession of top 20 singles.

The photos here show them at the height of their popularity, headlining the final night of the last year of Plymouth's short-lived Soundwaves Festival (also known as "Free-Fest") in 1998. Performing at the festival a year previous were a then little-known Devon band called Muse.
