Formed in 1994 by Tim Dorney and Andy Todd, and joined by Saffron on lead vocals, Republica released their debut album in 1996 (reaching number 4), and followed it with a succession of top 20 singles.
The photos here show them at the height of their popularity, headlining the final night of the last year of Plymouth’s short-lived Soundwaves Festival (also known as “Free-Fest”) in 1998. Performing at the festival a year previous were a then little-known Devon band called Muse.
